On the day my family moved at the age of four, the rain stopped in the early evening. My father drove us to a new place. I remember drops of water on the windows of the back seats. Hundreds of drops reflected light from traffic signals, cars passing by, and neon signs in the new town. My heart was beating as I watched them falling quietly. At ten, my family moved to Hokkaido because of my dad’s work. We went to see a lavender field in Furano during the summer holidays that year. On the way back home, the sky beyond a windshield was a blaze of light at sunset. Soon after, the whole sky turned the same color as the lavender field. It was a breathtaking sight. The same family doesn’t exist any more. But in the moment I feel the beauty if the world, I am reminded of happy memories. |

4歳のときの、引っ越しの日。雨上がりの夕暮れ。次に暮らす町へと、私たち家族は父の車で向かっていた。そのときの、後部座席の窓に付いた水滴のすがたを覚えている。信号機、行き交う車、知らない町の明かりが映り込んだ、無数の光の玉。それらが静かに流れ出すのを、ドキドキしながら見ていた。 10歳になって、私たちは父の仕事で北海道に引っ越した。その年の夏休み、富良野までラベンダーを家族で見に行った帰り道。助手席のフロントガラスに広がる空が、太陽が沈んだ後にパッと燃え上がった。それに続いて、空一面が周りのラベンダー畑と同じ色に染め上げられていくのを、息を飲んで見守った。 今はもう、あのときの家族のかたちはないけれど、世界を美しいと感じた瞬間には、幸せな記憶の予感があったことを思い出す。 |
